DIY Project (Hypothetical Running Weights)
Utilizing a product desihned for one thing maybe a cheaper way to create something for use as another. A hypothetical suggestion of a DIY hand weight. Disclaimer included.
What you will need.
1. Play sand, and or small pebbles.
2. Plastic tubing, one or two inches in diameter.
3. A saw to cut the tubing, or a PVC cutter, or applicable cutting tool.
4. A funnel, preferably a medium sized one. Tip. You can make your own funnel by getting a 12 ounce plastic bottle. Take the cap of the empty plastic bottle. Rinse it out let dry. When plastic bottle is dry, carefully cut the bottom of bottle out in it's circular pattern. Viola, a poor man's funnel. The uncapped end will be used for the exit end of the material.
5. Plastic tubing in length, or "PVC" tubing can be purchased at most hardware stores. Concentrate on if available about a 1 foot length with a one or two inch opening. This writer used a plastic heavy duty vacuum plastic extension tossed away in a neighbors trash.
6. You will need two acquire a couple of caps to seal the end of your weights, but that will be addressed later.
Your Plastic tube/cylinder, has been cut for comfort as to grip it while exercising. You take the funnel, and put your weight to be on a flat surface, creating a seal on one end of the tube.
As the tube is upright, put a funnel end into the opening of the tube. Scoop out some sand with your teeth(just kidding) and pour into the tube. You may have just the correct weight application for exercise. Since you use sand only at first it may be lighter than you want it. You can use different material as long as it does not contradict the plastic or anything else.
End caps. I purchased two rubber stoppers, for end caps because I may want to increase the weight of the tube some day. They can be easily removed, but will stay in place for my purpose.
Cost: About 4.75, cheaper if you already have what is probably in your basement.
