A Review of the Garmin Nuvi
The Garmin Nuvi is a GPS device for drivers. This article will review the Garmin and discuss its effectiveness.
I typed in the address of my destination and let the Garmin tell me how to get there. Garmin can read my location so there was no need for me to input my current location.
Not only did the Garmin help me arrive to my destination with no problem, I loved the way that it told me an approximate time for arrival. I had to get to the pet-sitter in Alabama by 1 p.m. and had left later than I expected. The Garmin help me adjust my pace so that I arrived at the pet sitter before it closed.
While driving, the Garmin's female voice gave me directions. The device told me when to turn within enough time to turn safely. The Garmin actually counts down the distance, so I knew exactly when I should turn. If I made an error and missed the turn, the Garmin recalculated the directions and gave me an alternate route, or told me how to get back on track.
Garmin gave me freedom. I felt free to go places on my own without the fear of getting lost. While in Alabama, I visited restaurants and attractions that I found in a destination guide. I did not worry about driving in the direction on a one-way street while downtown. The machine saved me time, because even when I had to make adjustments to find parking, I was always able to locate my attraction and get back to the hotel.
The Garmin is not perfect. At some points, it asked me to turn down roads that did not exist. That only happened about twice during a four-day trip. Whenever that happened, I simply continued straight and let the Garmin calculate new directions. I was never lost. There were also some instances, about three to four times, when took the Garmin several minutes to locate a satellite and calculate the directions for me. I pulled over and waited for the Garmin to pick up the signal. I did not like that at all. I also did not like the fact that the verbal commands did not tell me the name of the streets for turns. I had to look down at the Garmin to see that information. Overall, however, I liked the Garmin, and I would trust it to give me directions during any trip in the United States. Costs vary, but a Garmin Nuvi can cost $150 and up.
