Projected Western Conference Starting All-Star Team
With the NBA Basketball Season now in its 3rd month of play, it is now time to unleash The Sports Watchers' 2020 starting Western Conference All-Star team. There are definitely a few surprises, so hold on to your seats, this won't be pretty.
PG - Chris Paul (21.6-ppg, 10.3-apg, 3-spg) Chris Paul is playing point guard at a level that we have never seen before, and most people still aren't seeing it since you would be hard-pressed to find a New Orleans basketball game on television. His vision is just as great as Jason Kidd's is, and he is a much better overall scorer than Kidd is. This guy is truly the second-coming at the point-guard position, as he makes everyone around him better and can take over a game without scoring...although, he does like to score!
SG - ManuGinobili (19.4-ppg, 4.2-apg, 4.7-rpg) That's right! Don't look at me like that. I said Manu should start at the shooting guard position over Kobe Bryant. I know he doesn't even start on his own team, but the fact of the matter is that Manu is the most efficient shooting guard in the league, even more so than Mr. Bean Bryant is. Manu's all-around game and "unselfishness" make him so efficient at the game of basketball. That's why Greg Popovich of the Spurs doesn't start him, because he can get the same superstar-production out of Ginobili in 27.3 minutes/game that takes other players 40 minutes to produce. Per 40 minutes, Ginobili gets more assists, more rebounds and has a better true shooting percentage than Kobe. I love Kobe, but let's give the nod to the player who is playing great basketball, and not just the one who scores the most points.
SF - Josh Howard (21.1-ppg, 7.3-rpg, 2.2-apg) He finally made the all-star team last year, and this year I think he should be vying for his first appearance as a starter. Just think, if this guy were not on a team with the reigning MVP, how much would we be talking about him? Howard is a game changer. No one has been able to guard him one-on-one this season, and yet he has no problem guarding any other team's small forward or shooting guard. Carmelo Anthony may be mad at this selection, but he's not playing the game of basketball as efficiently as Howard who has a 20.7 PER.
PF - Carlos Boozer (23.5-ppg, 11.3-rpg, 3.0-apg) Boozer is making a name for himself, and in a season where Tim Duncan is technically having a "down-year" (although in reality, he is just orchestrating the game without dominating the ball), it is time to give Boozer his due along with a place in the Western Conference starting lineup. With almost 24 points per game and 11 rebounds, while doing it in just 35 minutes/game, you won't find a more efficient power forward in the West. His efficient play is managing to keep the Jazz in the playoff hunt, and if you've seen the rest of team, then you can imagine just how efficient he is playing (24.88 PER). The rest of the league better watch out for this man, if he keeps rolling like this, he could become the player to fear come the playoffs.
C - AmareStoudemire (22.0-ppg, 9.1-rpg, 2.3-bpg) This has been Amare Stoudemire's most efficient play since the 2004-2005 NBA season. This shows that he is fully back from the injury, even more so though than he appeared to be last year. He certainly has stepped up his game on the defensive end, and that is why I think he deserves to start this year. At 11.6 rebounds/40 minutes and with 2.3 blocks/game, he is proving that he can be a factor defensively.
