How to Make Little Girls Hair Ties
This is an article for parents of little girls who wish to learn how to make hair ties!
Making a hair tie is remarkably simple. It is also a fun project that parents can teach their daughters to do too, and do it with them. Many mothers have long hair as well. Mothers and daughters can do this together.
To start you'll first need to gather your supplies. What you'll need is a needle and some thread, or a sewing machine. Next you'll need scissors and a fun and fashionable fabric. Lastly you'll need elastic cord.
To start choose your fabric. It's a good idea to choose one that matches some of your little girls clothes. Maybe you could make some to match a specific dress or outfit! Once your fabric is chosen it's time to cut it to size.
For a fluffy, scrunch able hair tie cut a piece of fabric that is three to four inches wide and twelve inches long. Fold the fabric in half with the pattern sides facing inward and towards each other. Use the fold as one seem and then stitch the open side. Once the side is stitched you'll have two open ends. Turn the hair tie right side out. Now cut your elastic to about four inches. Insert it into one open end but do not let it go. Hold onto it. Gently fold the edges of the fabric on that end of the hair tie in and under about a quarter of an inch. Hold the elastic in place between the two edges of one side so that it is hanging inside the "tube". Next stitch across, taking extra care at the spot of the elastic. Stitch through and around it several times.
Okay, once the elastic is secured on that side and the side is closed up switch ends. Fold under the edges a quarter inch like you did on the other end and stitch around, not across. You'll want to leave the end open. Turn the hair tie around and take two of your fingers to scrunch it up until you have reached the elastic. Once you get it don't let it go or else you'll have to get it back again the same way. Pull the elastic until it stretches beyond the fabric. Stitch it to the exact spot the elastic is secured on the other end of the hair tie. The end you just completed.
The last step is to pull the open end over the closed end and then to stitch.
Once the last step is completed your hair tie is done and ready to wear! Smaller hair ties can be made about the same way. The trick is to use a safety pin and to reduce the width and length or the fabric and elastic. Use a safety pin to attach to the elastic when pulling it through, and also to turn the hair tie right side out after sewing the first side. Thanks for reading and take care!
