Preventing and Treating Foot Injury During a Residential Relocation
Moving and relocating can be physically exhausting, even leading to injuries. If you sustain an injury to your foot while moving, here are some tips to overcoming foot pain.
Foot injuries are quite common when moving and often account for a significant number of foot-related healthcare treatments. From ankle sprains to bruised feet, fractured foot bones, and even breaks in the toes, families who are preparing for a move should take necessary preventative measures to protect the feet while also knowing what is best in terms of foot care after a move.
Prior to your move or relocation, be sure that you are equipped with the right foot protective gear. Wearing steel-toed boots is usually the best option and if this is not an option, simply try to be sure you are wearing shoes that will keep your feet protected. Heavy furniture pieces and pieces of furniture that are difficult to carry should be moved using equipment designed to mobilize the equipment. Plan ahead and this will protect your feet from injury as much as possible during your move to a new home.
Even with preventative measures in clothing and equipment, you may still be at risk for sustaining a foot injury while moving. Understanding this, be prepared for such injury and have the appropriate acute first aid equipment available. In fact, a first aid kit that includes ibuprofen, band aids, ice packs and even ankle braces may be ideal. When a foot injury occurs, you should seek medical attention immediately but having these first aid items close by during your move will ensure that you have the equipment to treat a foot injury more effectively.
When foot injury is sustained during a move to a new home, you will want to have a plan in place to continue the move should you be unable to do so. In particular, be sure that you are in contact with family and can obtain the right support network to finish the job should you be unable to do so. In addition, be sure your health insurance information is up to date so you can efficiently manage a foot injury in your old home location and in your new home location. Moving to a new town may result in little knowledge about where the local emergency rooms and doctors are located so know before you make the move.
