Los Angeles Clippers NBA Forecast: 2020-2020

The Clip Show is without Elton Brand this season. So do The Sports Watchers think they have a prayer to contend?

Off-season: The Clippers addition of Ruben Patterson gives them yet another play who cannot shoot, but he they do need somebody to energize the team, especially with Elton Brand to miss the season. Brevin Knight was brought in to sure up the point guard position with the aging Cassell in place as the starter. The drafting of Al Thornton might have been perfect timing. With Brand sitting out, Thornton can really try to develop this season. Some people think his age (23) had a lot to do with his dominance in college last year, but in reality, if he displayed the talent he did, then he is that talented. Maybe the ceiling is lower on Thornton, but it is not capped.

Starters:

C - Chris Kaman: An athletic big who could really polish his offensive game to become a force in the West.

PF - Tim Thomas: He has all the skills, but they never seem to translate below the 3-point line for more than two or three games at a time.

SF - Corey Maggette: A great wingman who opens up the slow-paced Clippers offense.

SG - Cuttino Mobely: Terrific 3-point shooter who needs to be given more looks.

PG - Sam Cassell: He is getting old, but he's like that old guy at the park who use to play college ball; he just seems to keep making plays.

Bench: Brevin Knight, Guillermo Diez, Jared Jordan, Shaun Livingston, Quinton Ross, Al Thornton, Ruben Patterson, Josh Powell, Elton Brand, Aaron Williams and Paul Davis.

Philosophy: Coach Dunleavy implements a methodical offense that usually operates out of the post or is initiated by penetration. Without Brand though, there will be plenty more perimeter play, with Maggette and Mobley being the facilitators there.

Projection: No Brand means no playoffs. This should be reason enough for the team to focus on making the right moves this off-season.

Prediction: 23-59; 5th place in the Pacific Division
