EXPANSION OF MERCHANDISE
When Zappos started out in 1999, they were only a shoe company. As a matter of fact, the company name of Zappos is an offshoot of the Spanish word for shoes "zapatos." However, the CEO of this company (Tony Hsieh) didn't let a name keep him cornered in. He along with the other heads of Zappos expanded the company's merchandise to include clothing and electronics. It was these moves that helped bring in more customer sales.

Every one who works at Zappos is trained in customer service. It doesn't matter what position you take with the company. The leadership at Zappos wants to make sure the customers are spoken to respectfully by a "Live" person and assisted properly. This service even goes as far as helping a customer find shoes with another company if Zappos doesn't carry them. It's this type of dedication that has built Zappos a loyal following (of customers) that won't soon go away.

Unless something changes, Zappos is a company that will be around for a while because they have tapped into the pulse of doing good business. Good business is one that not only offers a customer options, but also gives them prompt, friendly service. It is also one that takes care of home. After all, if a company's employees aren't happy, then they really won't be vested in doing what's best for the business. It's a common sense approach that many companies older than Zappos can learn from.
