A Quick Look into Invision Power Board 3
This is about ipb3 and the features that were included in this board with this release.
On June 26th, Ipb had released IPB 3.0. As a long time user, I have been able to really take a look at this board. I was even given the opportunity to beta test the board before it was fully released. By testing it out earlier, I was able to see some of the problems they had. All customers whom have an active license were able to beta test.
The one problem that I had during the beta testing is that I had a problem installing it. I was getting installation errors which were related to my webhost. Many of the customers, whom were using the same host as me, were getting the same issues when trying to install it. Invision did fix the problem or had given us the fix to the problem. With each installation, it did get better. Once the final version came out, there were no problems installing it at all. This is the real importance of beta testing. Invision has the reputation of creating a quality product. If it was not for the customers, they would not be where they are today.
IPB 3 is an improvement over the previous versions. In the 2.2 series, they had had started including some social functions to their boards. In 3.0, they had organized the social aspect of it. The profile is where most of the social features are located. In the profile, everything is spaced out more. In the previous version, it seemed like everything was crammed together.
The two features that they have added to the board is the sidebar which is dependent on hooks and the reputation system. You can now see other member's status, latest post and the members whom are the top posters for a given day.
The admin area is a bit to get used to. It has some of the basic ideas from the predecessor, but there are some changes since now there are hooks on the forums. You still have the same familiar tabs but there is added function in the systems section. There is where you can install applications. One thing, I really do like is that you can move the forums around with the drag of the mouse. No other forum system has this ability. The forum is using lightboxes for the images that members post to the forum. I love how it pops up right in your face and of course, you can close it when you are done looking at an image.
In my mind, this board is well worth the money you spend on it. Invision does stand behind their products. If there is a problem, they will fix it as soon as they can possibly fix it.
