SanDisk Sansa Clip+ -MP3 Player Review
For those who value function over fashion, the original Sansa Clip from SanDisk has always been one of the most practical and affordable MP3 players for athletes. Now, after two years and an update to the competing iPod Shuffle, it was time for an update.
The updated SanDisk Sansa Clip, the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ adds a microSD slot for expandability and a brand new design.
In terms of size, the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ feels close to a matchbox - just like the old player.
The design has been changed to use higher quality plastic. It feels solid in the hand but aesthetics actually took a step backward with a rather plain, squared-off design, and glittery front finish. TheSanDisk Sansa Clip+ is available in 3 colors: black, red, and blue (Note: These color choices are only available on the 4GB version of the SanDisk Sansa Clip+).
The sound quality of SanDisk Sansa Clip+ is excellent; it's superior to the iPod Shuffle.
The SanDisk Sansa Clip+ has an FM radio, voice recorder and supports MP3, WMA, FLAC, and Ogg files.
The real attraction of the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ is the microSD expansion slot. It accepts cards up to 16GB on top of the internal memory which can be 2GB, 4GB, or 8GB.
It also accepts slotMusic or slotRadio cards. I don't think it's a great deal, but the compatibility doesn't hurt and it makes the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ a much better buy than the competing slotRadio Player.
Just like the original SanDisk Sansa Clip, the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ uses a standard directional control pad and a 1-inch OLED display which is monochrome and quite bright making it clearly visible in all kinds of lighting.
The back of the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ has a large clip for easily grabbing onto clothing.
The sweetest part of SanDisk Sansa Clip+ may be the price. The 2GB version sells for $40. The 4GB version sells for $50. And the 8GB version sells for $70. Considering that Apple's 4GB iPod Shuffle sells for $79 and has no screen or buttons, I think that it's a spectacular deal.
If you're looking for a solid, exercise-friendly ultra compact MP3 player, leave the iPod Shuffle at home and bring the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ out for a run. With its great features, superior sound quality, and affordable price, the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ is certainly the best budget MP3 player available right now. I would definitely recommend the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ over other ultra compact MP3 players in the market.
